Default How do I upgrade my captivate to 2.3?

What do I need to doto upgrade my captivate to 2.3 Gingerbread? I'm at work and can't look it up and I'm going to do some research when I get home but can anyone provide some links or tutorials to make my searching easier?

You can always install a ROM that's based off Gingerbread:

I recommend the Darky ROM for the Captivate. It's faster than Stock and has great battery life.

    1. flash Ficeto_JVH_Cappy_Odin.zip using the included odin1.3, pit and repartition
    2. download "Superuser", "DarkyROM" and "SGS Kernel Flasher" apps from Market
    3. download and put on SD-Card captivate_fix.zip and Darky_v10_RC6.zip
    4. Run DarkyROM app, select what you want and click Menu -> Save and Exit. NOTE Make sure you do not install the Kernel or the Modem!
    5. Download latest DarkCore kernel tar package for cappy (ends with "_C") and put it on your internal sd-card, then open "SGS Kernel Flasher" give it root rights , select the tar file and flash the kernel. Wait for the Phone to fully boot with your new DarkCore kernel. JVB I897 Odin: Dark_Core_2.2_C.tar
    6. Reboot into recovery and install first captivate_fix.zip and thenDarky_v10_RC6.zip (no need to reboot in between) when done, reboot into RC6
    7. Enjoy

And then as an extra, you can install a them if you'd like. I use the Sensation theme personally but PoisonGreen is nice for a dark theme.

Ok this is good stuff. Thank you DC and Zero. So one can't simply upgrade from 2.2 to 2.3 the way we can with 2.1 to 2.2? Darky will have all the same features as Gingerbread (plus more)?

Yes, Darky is the latest Gingerbread for the Galaxy, except with a lagfix (faster ROM), a slightly modified theme, and options to install additions like fonts, apps, etc.

How easy is it to go back to 2.2 stock if I want/need to downgrade?

Simple. Grab the firmware for your region and flash it via Odin.

You can also root your current 2.2, but on a clockwork recovery and do a NANDroid backup just to be extra sure.
