Post Accessing your Android's internal storage via Wifi

I wanted to update the first paragraph of my tutorial. I didn't like the way it was worded and I wanted to update that I did this on CM7. Since I can't edit my post, I guess I'll have to update it like this:

This is working on my Samsung Captivate using stock froyo and using CyanogenMod 7. It should definitely work on any android device with wifi access.

You need to install FTPServer. You can find it on the Market.
You also need an FTP client on your computer such as Filezilla.

    Preparing your phone
    1. On your phone launch FTPServer.
    2. Go to the settings or preferences and add this information (You can change the stuff in orange to anything you would like):
      User: YouName
      Pass: YourPassword
Port: 2121 (or any above 2000)
      Default dir: \sdcard
Then, scroll to the bottom and accept connections from your wireless access point (or all connections).
    3. Now tap the button that says save and restart session.
    4. You should see an IP address at the top of the app in a blue bar. You'll need that for the FTP Client on your PC.

    Preparing your PC
    1. Install Filezilla or another FTP Client if you have not done so yet.
    2. Enter the IP address into the hostname field of Filezilla. Also fill in your username and password and the port number you selected.
    3. Click Quickconnect. You should see something similar to this screenshot:

That's all there is to it. Now you can copy photos and other files from your phone to your PC without using a USB cable. This might work on 3G... I'm not sure. I just know it works over wifi.

Yeah, me too... I made this tutorial because a friend upgraded from an iPhone recently and he wanted to have SSH access to his phone like his iPhone had. This isn't as secure but it's good enough for him. I just thought I'd share this with all other new Android users.

I was wondering if they had that, and while browsing the many markets I installed on mine, I saw an FTP program, and loaded me up.

    Most people would...

Anyway, there's an app called Wifi File Explorer in the market that can do this type of stuff too. Got it the other day from amazon's app of the day and it works pretty well, I cant remember if it only works for the sd card though.

Yeah, why not? The Android phone he purchased was superior to his iPhone 4 in almost every way.

There is a app called websharing that is awesome for quickly modifying files.

Oh cool, I didn't know about that. Looks similar to my set up (Net Drive) but with more features.

On Windows you can use NetDrive to mount an FTP server as a drive in My Computer which allows you to upload and download things from your phone in Windows Explorer.
