    Default BB chip swap

I have a 32gb 3gs that is currently on 4.1(given to me) with a baseband of 05.14.02. I also have a 16gb 3gs that is unlockable, and im currently using on t-mobile. I saw this site http://www.beijingiphonerepair.com/s...roduct=3592967 Where they sell the baseband chip thats preprogrammed with 5.13.04 that you can swap out. swapping the chip isnt an issue, i work at a computer repair shop where we do component level repairs and chip pulling/reballing.

what im wondering is this, would i be able to take my baseband chip off my 16gb 3gs, reball it, and put it back onto the 32gb 3gs, then take the baseband chip from the 32gb, and put it on the 16gb? as long as the bb chips i swap are both from a 3gs, the size of the flash shouldnt matter, should it?

I don't think it would matter. But it MIGHT, depending on the Model Number. Which i'm guessing is different on both device's. The IMEI number is also on this chip. So by removing this chip, you are basically erasing the IMEI number also. How do you know that the IMEI number on the new chip will work? IS THERE an IMEI number on these new chip's? You do know how important an IMEI number is right?

Unless you REALLY know what your doing, i don't think you can change the baseband. BUT, from reading THIS it seem's you wouldn't have to do any of that if you just wait.

If I was you, i wouldn't bother. OR, try it and let us know how the procedure went.

yea, the 32gb has the old bootloader, the 16gb has the new bootloader. I thought i read somewhere that the IMEI is actually stored on the NAND.

ok, so buying a chip from the site i posted in original post is more than likely out of the question.

I guess i could wait, I did just get this 32gb 3gs last month, and its still "broken". i would rather have a working 16gb and wait for the 32gb to get unlockable.

As i say, going by the link that i gave sound's promising for some. Perhap's the IMEI is not on the baseband chip. I could be wrong.

after reading that, i think ill just wait.

EDIT: Just noticed his twitter page http://mobile.twitter.com/sherif_hashim he now has a dead 16gb 3G. Maybe musclenerd is really making progress with his 6.15 downgrade. *crosses fingers*

Edit2: http://www.beijingiphonerepair.com/f...e-with-photos/ in the comments Someone asks if replacing the chip will change the imei number. They respond back saying only the serial will be changed. Then on another page of theirs, they claim that changing the baseband chip will fix any "no imei" errors. They are kinda contradicting themselves. I'll just stick it out and wait for the community.

That's probably best. It all seem's a bit too iffy to me.
