jailbreak iphone 3gs

Hi,

I just picked up an Iphone 3GS with version 3.1.3 and modem firmware 05.12.01.

I'd like to jailbreak it, but am not too sure the proper way to do this without 'bricking' it. What software do I need and what steps do I follow to jailbreak this phone?

Also, I'd like to save the shsh files to be able to downgrade in the future if needed.

Do I jailbreak it first then save the shsh files, or vice versa?

Also, if I jailbreak it will my firmware remain at 05.12.01 and 3.1.3?

I have access to both a MAC or PC...but my mac is using a PC keyboard, so I do not have the 'CONTROL' key on the keyboard.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks!

files needed:

1. redsn0w 0.9.4 WIN

redsnow 0.9.4 mac

2. 3.1.2 ipsw/all firmwares

if u need just jailbreake to the 3.1.3 use the redsn0w 0.9.4 but whaen starts jailbreakeing and redsn0w prompts U for the browse for the ipsw button point the redsn0w to the 3.1.2 ipsw! thats a trick that provides jailbreake to the 3.1.3 os!

for shsh download tiny umbrella(there is a download link for umbrella at the megathread top of the help section) hook the iphone and press save shsh! no jailbreake needed!

u dont need control button for MAC, u need OPTION button, so u are good to go! just to remind U option buttonis on a mac keyboard is a same position like windows button! CTRL(WIN)= COMMAND(MAC) WHICH IS ALT ON A WIN keyboard!

when u open cydia for the first time after jailbreake choose complete upgrade reboot and proceed! search in cydias home page for "make my life easier" that is a command to a cydia server that saves shsh automatic!
