    hi, i will be moving overseas and need advise on how i should pack/transport my ps3 please? have any of you done this?

    should i pack the ps3 really good and CARRY IT ON WITH ME ON THE PLANE? or should i pack it really good and PLACE IT IN MY SUITCASE AND DISPATCH the suitcase?

    i still have the original box but i was hoping not to use it... i don't want to draw too much attention and keep things less bulky.

    what do you suggest? any parts of the ps3 that i have to be really carefull when transporting?

    thank you all.

    As much luggage as the airports lose or what gets stolen I wouldn't trust it. I would either carry it on (they might think its a terrorist device though lol) or I would just mail it to myself the day I would be leaving. Postage would be expensive but it is an option I guess and you could even get it insured just to be safe.

    you could get a ps3 Carrying case

    PSP 1.5 got on USA first day is was 1.5 NOW 4.01 M33-2 -> 5.00 M33-6(1.50 addon),
    Old PS3s: PS3 60GB FW:3.41(2nd ps3 YLoD, 1st, YLoD)
    New PS3:
    Slim 160gb 01-21-2011 Working
    was 3.40 OFW->3.60 OFW

    2nd PSP : PHAT 5.50 GEN-D2
    3rd PSP : Sliver 3000 Starting OFW:4.20 (NEW bought NEW on 11/28/2010)
    It a good idea to have "Hide extensions for known file types" in Folder Options(under Tool) unchecked (turn on extensions)

    Jason Statham will transport just about anything for you, in fact, there are two movies based on his expertness in transporting stuff...

    You can put it in just about anything, it's not all that fragile. You see the packing the original box has in it. YOu can use a Laptop bag if it will fit, or even a book-bag... People use them all the time to take their consoles to their friends houses...

    Yeah i wouldn't trust the airport to transport it. They throw the luggage around like its trash.. Haven't you seen that dirty jobs episode where they throwing everyones bags around to get them where they want them? Taking it as carry on is your best bet. You can ensure its safe and you know it wont get lost or misplace on another plane. I agree with Powerslave you can put it in just abut anything you want just be sure to bring it on the plane with you.

    And so you all know it doesn't accidently get misplaced on another plane its purposely put there...

    Yea, if you're moving a lot of stuff then a proper haulage company can be hired but they can be expensive. I would definitely use the retail box just to be on the safe side and then put that into a large suitcase if you can. I can't see you being allowed to have it as hand luggage if in the retail box. Another idea is to send via courier just before you go and time it right so it arrives at your new place once you've arrived there, but this is expensive for a single item.

    May I ask where you're traveling from and to?

    thank you all for responding. i really appreciate all of your responses.

    some of you have advised me to use a transporter or even send it by mail but that won't work for me. i want to take it with me... i was wondering if i should place it in the suitcase and dispatch the bag or carry it on with me on the plane.

    i will be moving from the US to Brazil... and i don't trust the Brazilian mail service...

    i wonder if the US airlines will let me carry on the ps3? or will they make me dispatch the unit? because right after the 9/11 attack they were making you dispatch everything, including ipods.

    has anyone travelled FROM THE US lately taking electronics with them???

    i might have to call them too to double check...

    I Say carry it with you. if they need to look inside let them. they wanna know why you want it with you. tell them the truth you don't want it lost because you heard a lot of luggage gets lost and you fear your ps3 will get lost. they should understand. they do limit what you can carry so they should allow you to keep it with you. like a notebook PC
