Work this mess out... (Help me out of this hell)

ok...
i have a ps3 ylod fixed it but the cd drive mechanism is broken, i tried to update the ps3 without it to 3.55 ofw but obviously it didn't work as i didn't have a "full system" the ps3 was then stuck in a loop attempting to update itself but after a few restarts it only shows tv output in recovery mode and i have tried updating from recovery mode but still a no go. so i need a few suggestions in trying to get out of this hole my only ideas were to flash the memory (not done before)
new cd drive (although these are now 2 different problems)
any help would be great!

you NEED the blu-ray drive connected to update the PS3
if you do not, you get stuck in a update loop

even if the drive cant read discs
it MUST be connected

Its a modified version of 3.55 OFW and 3.55 Kmeaw which by-passes the blue-ray check and installs the firmware. I am not sure how safe it is to install and therefore cannot guarantee that it will work.. Use it at your own risk.

Thanks i'm going to give this a try at some point this week recovery mode was stuck checking for an update so hopefully i can get past that an back to xmb then i suppose the hell of trying to find a matching blu ray drive starts!

so basically you could have the drive connected when updating , it's only an mechanical issue right?

Ha I wish bit of a mess at the moment on that one as it was the 1st ps3 I had tried to fix all went well except fro the dreaded ribbon clip I managed to break but I'm hopeful of finding a way around that it's just at the moment it would be handy to try without just to get back to xmb really!

i'm currently stuck with the ps3 checking for update software from ext hdd think the memory need's flashing as it's stuck between updates that make sense to anyone?

when you update the FW
so you MUST have your blu-ray drive INSTALLED(hooked up and POWERED)

for the ps3 update to work


if the blu-ray drive is NOT installed, the ps3 WILL ERROR out and you will be stuck in update mode

hi maaaaaate thing is i'm stuck before that as the ps3 won't find the update software as it's half installed 3.55 so the issue at the moment is not the blu ray!
