maybe someday when sony releases a new firmwire. It could be possible because the original background is just a couple of lines moving around. So if son can animate that, who knows wat can happen. at the time being tho it doesn't seem likely.

    Not remotely possible.

When the PSP saves and sets a background image, it is saved at:

    flash1:/vsh/theme/wallpaper.bmp

No matter what format you create and save the background (png, gif, etc.) it will be converted to a bmp.

Even if it were possible, you would have major xmb corruption. The PSP's kernel only allocates a specific amount of memory to the the xmb, having an animated background wouldn't help matters.

so i guess that means animated icons would be even more of a burden to the cpu while browsing the xmb

Having xmb animated icons wouldn't be possible even if you could allocate more memory to the xmb, although you can give the icons animation when selecting them by modifying paf.prx

Yeah, you may wonder why Project4's the first real XMB replacement. Its because of the VSH memory limitations. Makes stuff very hard. Just in simply going from the main menu to the browser in P4 all the menu images have to be unloaded then the browser ones loaded and vice versa. Makes deving real hard
