Default Tips for those [re]playing Vagrant Story

here's some tips to get the best of the game early on and for late:

    Get ur combos/chains fast:

Paralysis Pulse, Numbing Claw, Dulling Impact:-
take any 2 of these into ur chain early; and use them; since they don't deal damage you can chain these forever or till ur eyes fall out,
i got more than half of all chains by the time i got out of the wine celler

    timing and dummies:

the fastest wep is the staff, not dagger train ur weapons using dummies, be warned using dummies only increases the listed stats and decreases everything else.

you can break/kill training dummies, just leave the area and come back again. you can get elixirs from them but they're rare(i've confirm this; but only hp/mp elixirs)

to increase stats for your weapons; it's by per use, not damage, not chain count(attacking normal enemies will not decrease any stats)

for Break Arts it's by kill count

Snake Venom does NOT work on undeads

Mind Ache and Mind Assault can be used to make short work to elemental phantoms and magic casters, be warned humans will use items to replenish mana; while others will use mind drain, which steals ur mp

    100% risk and 0% chance:

there's 2 ways of playing this game, safe and berserker:

safe:- use lots of items to reduce risk; tend to have low chain counts(after chain 9 ur risk will spike up like mad); this in turn will give u a good % chance to hit but u'll be farming alot for items and uses alot of time to increase ur weapon stats

berserker:- Raging Ache and Prostasia /Herakles is your best friend; most of the time your risk is maxed, and you have 0% to hit... but you have hit chain counts and once you master chaining on a weapon 1 chain is all you need to kill anyone including bosses. it's possible to beat the game using just 1 weapon, you'll have a crossbow just to snipe of boxes during puzzles.

once you hit high risk (100/enemy count= risk ratio per enemy; or 20 per enemy). you tend to miss alot, but there's ways around it:

    - more then 4-7 misses in a row; stop the chain and atk again
    - alt misses; change your chain skill or keep chining for chaining's sake
    - use buffs at the start of battle high agi helps

    GEMS!!!:

there's types of gems in this game:

    - lower elemental gems: + on 1 element and - on the opposing
    - higher elemental gems: ++ on 1 element and - for everything else
    - lower bane(D&D terminology) gems: + on 1 enemy type - on 2 others
    - higher bane(D&D terminology) gems: + on 1 enemy type - on all others
    - weapon/shield gem: these give 3 to all enemy and element stats + effect, you'll have to put them in the stated type to gain the bonus. (gems like mana breaker effects you aswell as enemies, you can still equipt them on the latter just to get the +3)

in addition to the bonus listed above, gems also give stat bonus, anywhere from +1 - 6 of you main stats

when you get to undercity west, farm silverfish like mad(little girls dolls), they'll drop silver dagger(kukri); silver: + undead, phantom, light. but that's not why you want them, the grip has 3 slot for gems and 1 +light gem attached.

the humans in town center west are a pain but they drop decent items when they do, the shields they drop have 2 slots + 1 gem
