    Okay, to sum things up: son of a BITCH! :x

    I just recieved an e-mail. Here's the important part of it:

    You have been hand selected for a very special mission. For the first time, we're beta testing a title exclusively for the PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable) system — SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo. We'd like you to apply to be one of our beta testers. Space is limited, so register today, using only your PSP browser. (You will not be able to register for this beta test any other way.)

    Just follow these simple steps:

    1) Upgrade your PSP Firmware to 2.0*

    2) From your PSP Internet browser go to http://pspbeta.us.playstation.com. (We will only accept registrations that are completed on the PSP browser.)

    3) Follow the onscreen instructions to complete your registration

    You will not receive a confirmation email. We will not send out acceptance notifications until all applications are processed.

    Please note that this beta is ONLY playable online on your PSP system via a wireless Internet connection. No offline version is available.

    *Instructions on how to download and install the 2.0 Firmware Upgrade:
    • Information and instructions about using your computer to install the Firmware are available here.
    • If you have wireless Internet access, simply choose the "Network Update" option under the settings menu of your PSP system. More details.

    Okay, first off...an online-only beta test game? Sounds really freakin' cool. It's free! Also cool! I was selected, me, to participate in it. Super cool.

    ...I have to upgrade to firmware 2.0 and give up all my wonderful homebrew programs in order to participate.

    ...fucking NOT cool!!

    Does anyone else know about this beta-test thing? Is anyone else doing it? Is it worth the switch? Is there any other way around this? Why is the sky blue? Do you know the muffin man?

    Haha...yeah um...I don't think that's feasible at all in my case. I'm more or less the only one I know with a PSP.

    I reaaaalllly wish I could somehow find out if it's truly worth it...

    Seems like another sony ploy to get people to upgrade, i bet the # of people that actually get to do it will be less than 1000, and thats a small # when you think about it. And thats only if this email is even real. ;) i wouldnt if i were you.

    could create a browser that sends out the same headears as the psp browser like ie sends ie5.0+ (or whatever) and netscape and firefox send mozilla i believe someone made a psp only site that you could only come from psp browsers... find out how they did it and find a way to make the computer connect...

    you can use firfox or mozilla to do so : http://labs.wonderbyte.com/

    Using Firefox to test PSP compatible sites

    Filed under: psp
    firstly you need to spoof the useragent setting
    download and install useragentswitcher extension for setting your user agent
    second once installed and rebooted
    then select TOOLS->USER AGENT SWITCHER->OPTIONS->OPTIONS
    then select USER AGENTS
    click ADD
    then enter the following
    description=“PSP”
    useragent=“Mozilla/4.0 (PSP (PlayStation Portable); 2.00)”
    appname=“Sony PSP”
    appversion=“2.0″
    platform=“PSP”
    vendor=“Sony”
    vendorsub=“Sony”

    everything in bold should not be typed
    then select PSP from TOOLS->USER AGENT SWITCHER
    then test it by going to the Sony PSP Portal Site
