    Im trying to make a linux partition on my laptop, but dont want to have to buy partition magic is there any way i can make a partition w/o partition magic????????

    partition magic can seriously fuck up your HDD.
    Any Linux distro that is worth using includes a tool you can use while installing to manage and make partitions. Use that, you will be MUUUUUCH better off.

    This is a little off topic :paranoid:

    What ever use the linux boot disk to set up your drive's format

    I dont see how you can cause any real damage, seeing as all youd have to do is re partion it

    i've used KNOPPIX (a bootable linux cd) and it comes with a
    gui version of a partition manager. i forget the name of it, though.
