I bought a PSP on eBay about 2 months ago - a Japanese unit with v1.5 firmware and a couple of memory sticks and am having great fun with homebrew, etc.

Bought a UMD with Alien on it today from Woolworths - Region 2 - but when I try and play it I get "This disc cannot be started. The region code is not correct."

I checked the box and it says "For use in Japan only" and has a region 2 symbol and the UMD has a region 2 symbol.

Any ideas why this won't play?

Is there a way to check the region on the unit?

Is there away around the region coding?

Any answers would be gratefully received!

look at the model # on the bottom of your psp

    PSP-1000 = japan
    PSP-1001 = north america
    PSP-1002 = australia / new zealand
    PSP-1003 = united kingdom
    PSP-1004 = europe
    PSP-1005 = korea
    PSP-1006 = hong kong / singapore
    PSP-1007 = taiwan
    PSP-1008 = russia
    PSP-1009 = china

and no, there is no way around the region code for umd movies

Well there's that mystery solved! Cheers :)

It's a PSP1001 - North America - although did come in a box with Japanese writing all over it and PSP1000K. Just checked an the manual is North American too!

Oh well, will just stick to Films on a memory stick.

Another question though - is there any homebrew software to stop the firmware being upgraded if I buy a UMD game with firmware update on the disk?

    Thanks!

ps: anyone wanna buy Alien R2 UMD :D

alot of games have firmwares on them for quick upgrading
you could use a version changer and i think fastloader will do the trick as well
these options are if you have a 1.50 firmware

i also think that the disk switch could work for some games but i have not tryed that
(put in a 1.50 firmware required game, then take out that game and replace it with the new umd game once the psp boot screen shows)

I think UMD Emulator can bypass the region check on moives, you just have to change some of the settings I think.
