    Hey everybody,

I was just thinking to myself, with the new release of DevHook 4.5 is there really a point of paying so much money for a UP Modchip??, when really you can just download devhook and use its capabilities for free!

It should probably be clarified again just for safety's sake that the modchip will unbrick any bricked PSP as long as there is no internal hardware damage. The custom firmware, which i believe is what you are referring to has a few conditions. 1) You must have installed it before u bricked your psp. 2) it only unbricks your psp from bad bootsounds, font, and things typically done with xflash. This covers most of the things people do with writing to flash unless your a dev. I just wanted to point that out, I am still a devhook user and wouldn't think of paying for the modchip now, and am also glad I waited.

Waiting out on this and not buying the mod chip was probaly one of the best decisions I made because with the custom firmware and dual boot capabilities its just like having the mod chip. And as far as the new epison bios is concerned that will probaly be emulated soon enough, or who cares firmware 2.71 emulation through dev hook offers the same things except full homebrew acess but if you are dillagent enough you can still load homebrew if you recompile the eboots.

Speaking as someone who had a 2.71 PSP, and had attempted the UP install, I can say that using 1.5 & Devhook is definitely my preference.

I'm a decent solderer, having done a lot of PC projects before (best was the Sega 3D glasses conversion), but having carefully opened the PSP, made the tracks bare ready for the soldering, it was nearly impossible to do the soldering needed for the ModChip install, even with a fine tipped iron & magnifying setup.

In fact, I gave up and put the PSP back together.... It was still working till I cracked the screen - damn it!

Anyhow, I went and bought a new 2.5, downgraded to 1.5, installed Devhook 0.45 and I must say that the results have been fantastic - thanks to all the community here, and great info.

All my games work, ISOs made to backup, Homebrew installed, and everything going well!

    Devhook all the way !
