A LOT of people have been bricking their PSPs lately, haven't they? There should be a "no messing with your flash until you've had your PSP for at least 2 months and you're familiar with homebrew and you've thouroughly read at least 5 tutorials in the forums on how to do things before you try them," guideline just so people can't attribute their problems to un-thurough help from tutorials and fellow members and then spam the help section.

And why do people ask for help with a brick? IT'S A BRICK. NOTHING YOU CAN DO. Unless of course you're asking on how to use the recovery mode on your custom firmware. Are they clinging to false hopes? Are they in denial?

And for those of you who have bricked your PSPs, how did you do it? I'm trying to find out what the most common cause of a brick is...

    Thank you for your time!

I'm too scared to mess with the stuff that writes to flash like the stuff that changes the gameboot thingy and crap.
I wanna keep my psp like it is (1.5) and I dont mind if the stuff is generic.

because I'd rather have a psp startup thats normal than a brick.
    :)

    Same, several topics about it.

I'm staying clear of it all, and if there would be something i really need to do, then i make sure i know every step perfectly, throwing away 200 euro for being stupid is not worth it...

What i have noticed though that people keep going on about custom firmware, that anyone should have it, are there any advantages, or disadvantages? And what about installing it, any risks?

It's mostly user error, ppl mess with the flash programs without even testing what they are flashing. I would never flash a gameboot without first testing it....even though i have custom firmware.

So it's only something you should use when you are going to customize your PSP?

I just use devhook and fastloader. I dont have any desire to change the boot sound, pic or any of that. Besides all I care for is the backgrounds and im always in 2.71fw with dev anyways, so im ok without modding my psp.
