bought my first PSP, and want to run "extra" software and such.

Why though do I need to downgrade the firmware? I understand how to do it, but just curious as to why, is it that earlier versions are more OPEN source hackable?

    Just curious

    Thanks

yeah, on older versions, there's no security to block out homebrew thus we can get custom firmware, ISOs, homebrew games, homebrew emulators etc...

Yes, the older versions and the new emulated firmware versions actually allow homebrew.

From what you are saying you are sounding as if you are afraid to downgrade because people could "hack" your psp.

Firmware updates don't prevent people from hacking your psp, they prevent you from hacking your own psp and making it uber sexy.

Updating your psp wouldn't be the smartest choice, but that's for you to decide. I'd advise you to not update.
