Lots of people have crunked up their psp using the various ta-082 /ta-086 idstorage changers. Chilly Willy and the guys at Maxconsole Have solved the issues and released a bunch of stuff listed briefly below.

Idstorage manager - backup change and view keys
idrestore - fixer ,, see original post below for chilly's post.
idcopy - same , fixer see post please.
Idstorage Changer - New downgrading util changing only what needs to be changed, in a reversable manner.

This is the fix for usbhost... And every thing else (barring some brightness depending on board)

Perhaps the tutorials should be updated. I can attest to "idrestore" and "idstorage manager" working , those were the ones i needed, and ran.

    thanks again Chilly ;)

my advice is free, use it at your own risk.

its part of the psp (firmware?) but basically it holds a ton of keys and commands in there concerning the proper operation of the psp. IDStorage is the reason ta-082/6s brick because it does a continual loop in a section of code on ta-082/6s that does not happoen on 79/81s which means the firmware never boots and it is therefore bricked. In order to downgrade ta-082's certain idstorage keys were corrupted to allow 1.50 to work. Thats my understanding anyway, IDK the exact details of idstorage itself but there is a prx called idstorage so meh..?

idstorage isnt part of the firmware, so if you fuck it up, your psp is fucked, recovery mode or not. just ask the people who bricked by spoofing mac adresses

^^I believe it is part of the firmware. Never looked into idstorage, but there's two PRXs in OE - that means, one of them is part of the 1.50 subset.

If people are getting full bricks, I'd assume it involves editing the idstorage.prx in the 1.50 subset (kd folder).

None of those apps ever fixed my broken Idstorage key.

I ended up using a downloaded 043.bin and usbhostfs-fix, after which it was fixed.

From what I've gathered most people with modded ta-082 2.71+ PSP's probably have a corrupted key. The reason being that the downdater corrupts one in the process of going to 1.50.

You typically won't even notice that anything is wrong with your PSP. Everything on my PSP worked fine with a corrupted key. Nothing seemed broken by any means. HOWEVER, when using USB mode, my PC only ever saw my PSP as a generic USB drive. You can check this by plugging in your PSP's usb port, turning on USB mode and then right clicking on the assigned drive letter under "My Computer", go to "Properties" and click on the "Hardware" tab. If you only see a generic USB storage drive listed and not "Sony PSP USB Device", then your idstoragekey is probably hosed.

What does this mean for you? Nothing unless you ever try to use usbhostfs to play iso files located on the PC via usb, attempt to use the GPS or camera attachment (these will have issues with the corrupted idstorage key in question, as it seems to affect the USB port in some form), OR if you try to use the Sony movie discs that come with some Sony memory sticks. (Mine would not find the PSP, even though it was plugged into the USB port and was giving me access to the memory stick contents. I was baffled.)

So like I said, you may not even notice that anything is wrong, but that's how you can check.

And if it turns out that your PSP is experiencing these problems, you're probably fine unless you want to do one of the things I mentioned above. And if you do, search around for usbhostfs-fix, and use it on a PSP with a good key to get a copy of it, or be creative and find a good 043.bin key online. (I can't/won't talk about that here, as it's copyrighted material.)
