Is there a reason behind Sony delaying support for WPA2 with a firmware update for the PSP?

What firmware are you on. I'm almost positive 3.10 OE supports it.

It a good idea to have "Hide extensions for known file types" in Folder Options(under Tool) unchecked (turn on extensions)

Nope it just supports what the poster above mentioned, WEP, WPA-PSK TKIP and WPA-PSK AES.

    :(

    edit

Im on 3.10 OE-A and no under networks scanned, my home network is greyed out saying unsupported. I do not physically have access to the router neither do I have the permission to access its setup page but I have access to the WEP key.

The wireless b card in the psp doesn't support it, doesn't matter about the firmware- it's the CARD itself (the chip) that doesn't support it..hardware upgrade or no cigar
