Ecost had a good deal on the factory referb PSP but I ended up getting a 3.11. Tried the Wal-Mart route and ended up with a 2.71 TA-082 K coded PSP with a dead pixel. While returning that new PSP I noticed right on the casher's counter a plastic notice stating how to check the PSPs serial number sticker with the box number and the number on the receipt. They were not messing around and counted every single item that came in the box and triple checked the numbers! That notice looked like something Sony made and sent out to the stores; they also tried to make it idiot proof by using huge fonts, pictures, arrows and red boxes where to look for numbers. Lesson learned: Buy new and check the code on the box!

Edit: we've been telling people to switch out the serial numbers for some time now.

um... that's extremely gay. I guess I'll need to take up 'pissed off' customer lessons to get a replace, should I need it.

That was something that We all knew that Sony was going to do. Because they probably were getting a lot of loses in their side.

But this is what I think: If Sony came out with a pretty dawn good portable console why not put it to good use, I mean, if the console is good enough to emulate almost all the other consoles up to date or run homebrew utilities , why not let people do this since they are not doing it.

yes sony try to stop piracy that'll get you far... really it will.

So the wal-mart trick is half dead, but people will rip something outta their ass to top off this gay crap sony decided to do. And again this pisses me off.

Well, if you took the sticker off it would be noticeable that you switched serials. Do you switch out the parts of the systems so you put the new shell with the bad parts? I doubt walmart would check the warrenty sticker.

try taking a film of water over it, leave it for a minute and slip it off.
