  • Import themes to the PSP.
  • Play music, and view pictures at the same time.
  • Use a new feature called 'Scene Search' in videos to track down a certain point in a video by looking at intervals of 15, 30 seconds, 1, 2 and 5 minute intervals. You can also use the L and R buttons to switch between videos like if you were switching between pictures, or music.
  • Sequential playback is now supported under [Video]
  • Video bitrate limit raised to 2Mbit/s from 768kbit/s
  • Within the 'Remote Play' feature, the [Assign Buttons] options has been added.
  • Playstation Spot was added under [Network] for Japanese units.

  • A new [RSS Channel Guide] has been added under the [RSS Channel].


Version 3.40
[list][*]PlayStation game saves are now compatible between the PSP and the PS3.[*][Certificate Utility] feature removed. You can check this info by press Triangle for the item you want to display info for and go down to Information.[*]Support for PlayStation network titles has been expanded.

Version 3.30
  • You can now set thumbnail images to items in the RSS Feed.
  • You can now set thumbnail images to videos. To do this, create an image, and save it to the VIDEO folder. Once you do that, rename the file, to the name of the video you want to match the thumbnail with. For example, you want to set it for video 'XMB'. The image file should be 'XMB'.
  • There has been several new formats that can be played. These are the MPEG-4/H.264 AVC Main Profile (AVC CABAC) video formats. They can be played in the following sizes: 720 X 480, 352 X 480, or 480 X 272. Depending on some data types, the file cannot be played.
  • While setting the Infrastructure Settings on the PSP, the [Use Wireless Hotspot] option has been added. You can set this under the [Network Settings].
  • Support for PlayStation network titles has been expanded.


Version 3.11
  • [Reset Game] has been added as an option while playing PlayStation Network games.
  • You can now play MPEG4-AVC files under the LocationFree Player.
  • [Conserve Memory] has been added as an option in the [Internet Browser]. Conserve Memory is an option that degrades the quality of pictures when loading pictures to keep the PSP from using a lot of memory, or running out of memory to use.
  • The [Dynamic Normalizer] option has been added as an option under [Sound Settings].
  • Support for PLAYSTATION Network titles has been expanded.


Version 3.10
  • Secret patch to kill the GTA: Liberty City Stories exploit.


Version 3.00 - 3.03
  • PlayStation Network titles are now supported. PlayStation Network games are original PlayStation One games bought from the PlayStationStore, or PlayStation One games that were converted for the PSP. All of these games require firmware 3.01 or later.
  • [Remote Play] has been added. This allows for the remote access of a PlayStation 3 system from a PSP. You can stream music, pictures, among other things between the two systems.
  • [Online Instruction Manuals] have been added. This feature allowed you to use your Internet Browser to read an online and PSP version of the manual for the system. It covers everything you find in the regular manuals.
  • [Set Timer] has been added as a feature under the RSS Channel.
  • The [Visual Player] has been added under the Music Menu. This feature plays visualizations while music is playing.
  • Three speed rewind and fast-forward option added and can be used while playing music.
  • The [Camera] menu is added as a feature. You can use a camera to take and save pictures to your PSP using a standalone camera. This camera is only available in Japan, but will be available for purchase in the United States soon.
  • The [UMD Auto-Start] feature is now added under the [System Settings]. When enabled, the UMD Auto-Start will boot to the UMD, instead of booting to the XMB. When disabled, it boots to the XMB.
  • Added in 3.03 allowed PlayStation network games to be launched under the GAME menu if the game was made that way.
  • Security patches were added in 3.02.



Spoiler for 2.XX:


Version 2.82
  • Secret patching of sceKernelLoadExec bug, but opening sceRegOpenRegistry exploit.
  • You can download RSS Feeds of videos and still images using the new feature added in. Available under the RSS Channel menu.
  • Register PSPs through a wireless LAN point with the LocationFree player. Available under Network in the home menu.
  • You can now play .3gp music files with the music player. These files are AAC files.
  • You can now allow the PSP to automatically setup a network configuration if the access point supports it. It's available under the Infrastructure Mode Setting in Network Settings.
  • Any pictures, videos, and music can now be played. They must be sorted into a MUSIC, VIDEO, or PICTURE folder. If the folders aren't there, create them and place the files where they belong.


Version 2.71
  • PSP Demos can be downloaded via the Internet Browser.
  • Videos are now displayed correctly when an external tuner is selected while using the LocationFree Player. This affects the LF-B1 model players, and the LF-X11 players. Read the manual to see which model number you have.


Version 2.70
  • Flash 6 cotnent can now be displayed in the Internet Browser. Make sure your Flash Player is enabled for this to work. Find it under [System Settings].
  • [Connection Settings] has been added an option under the Internet Options in the Internet Browser.
  • Audio files downloaded from RSS Feeds can now be saved onto your Memory Stick.
  • A new file extension (unknown) has been added to the list of playable AAC format music files.
  • Three new settings added - Enable Flash Player, RSS Channel Settings, and the use of the L/R buttons in videos.
  • Fixed an issue where some conditions limited the use of a MemoryStick Pro Duo 2 GB Stick.


Version 2.60
  • RSS Channel added as a feature under the Network in the home meny.
  • [Volume Adjustment] added as an option while using the LocationFree Player.
  • Simplified and Traditional Chinese encoding options has been added to the Internet Browser.
  • Copyright-protected videos supplied by 3rd party services can now be downloaded onto the PSP.
  • Music files bearing the .wma extension can now be played in the music player. You will need to activate the WMA Player from [System Settings] to make it work though. WMA9 Professional, WMA9 Looseless, and copyright-protected WMA files cannot be played.
  • You can now enable the WMA Player.


Version 2.50
  • [LocationFree Player] has been added as a feature under the Network menu.
  • You can now have the Internet Browser "Auto-Select" the encoding of a page. The UTF-8 Unicode has also been added.
  • The Text, and Display Size settings for the Internet Browser can now be saved. This doubles for input history.
  • Copyright-protected videos can now be played.
  • You can use the Internet to set your date and time for you.
  • You can input Korean characters on the character-input screen now.


Version 2.01
  • Security patches added. Response to the use of downgraders via the .TIFF picture files.


Version 2.00
  • The Internet Browser has been added.
  • You can use the 4:3 ratio format when viewing videos.
  • "Go To" feature added for use while using music and video from UMD Music or UMD Videos.
  • A-B Repeat added for use while using music and video from the UMDs or from the Memory Stick.
  • Audio Options were added to the option menu while viewing videos.
  • MP4 format videos are now playable for videos.
  • Using SonicStage version 3.2 or higher, and firmware 2.00 or higher as allowed for the transfer and play of ATRAC3 music files.
  • Wallpaper feature added. You can now set a picture as a wallpaper.
  • Image Transfer feature added. You can send pictures between two PSPs.
  • .tiff, .gif, .png, and .bmp picture files can now be added and viewed.
  • The Korean language has been added as a language under [System Settings]
  • [Character Sets] have been under for use under [System Settings]
  • The Internet Browser can now be password-protected by a 4-digit pin number. You can set this number under [Security Settings]
  • Web address shortcut feature added. While entering a website address, you can cut down on time while entering. When you go to h, web-related terms such as http://, https://, etc. appears.
    WPA-PSK (TKIP) has been added as a security feature under [Security Settings].

    internet-based things on psp are kinda useless to me. (no wireless, and no real need for it atm.)

    Same here. The most I can ever use my browser and radio is just for portals. :p But then, we can always just get rid of it from flash0.
