Could anyone explain to me what's the difference between these two?
Any reason why I should use one instead of the other?
    Which is better and why?

CSOs are compressed ISOs so CSOs take up less space, some say that CSOs lag more than ISOs but however I have experienced such a thing before.

very few games lag with cso compression but not many and an even smaller few will not run at all if in cso format
use cso unless you have a problem with a game then try iso
if you have a prob. with both then you may have a bad copy

CSO's are good if you are lacking in space.

    compression, thts it...

no real difference between the two. Read thhe technical aspect somewhere that cso compresses the sound to save space. So the psp has to uncompress it to play the sound (reason for the lag) but its hardly noticeable as all this takes place in the game loading. (also level loading). thts it. real bad cso files have voice lag and omission etc.
iso is the exact copy of the original disc. period.

Cso is usually slower btw, if that wasn't mentioned.

What are people using to compress isos these days? Is it still Ciso? Last time I was doing this was a long time ago, and I was using the command line Ciso.

ISO is normal image of the game/video umd, has no compression
CSO is a compressed iso, therefore will ahve slightly slower access time. Causing lag in games that constantly load from the cso.
    For example the GTA games.

I don\'t give a crap about your firmware history
