Piracy is an ongoing problem just about everywhere, and those familiar with the underground world are well aware that the PSP is a prime target. In fact, some might say there is a "global piracy issue" on Sony's handheld.

So stated SCEE president David Reeves in an interview with MCV, but he also warned that any and all PSP pirates are going to pay for their crimes. It seems Sony is primed and ready to unveil "a new clampdown on those responsible," but at the same time, reluctantly admitted that it helped to drive hardware sales. Here's what Reeves had to say on the issue at hand: "We know about it, we know how its done. It sometimes fuels the growth of hardware sales, but on balance we are not happy about it." He finished by noting Sony's efforts to stop the spread of piracy on their platforms, and that they will provide new ways to combat piracy "soon." So if you're one of those people who thinks it's okay to do what you're doing, Sony may have a painful newsflash for you within the next few months.

It's a complicated issue, but beneath it all, there's a very good reason why it's called "piracy." Sony isn't about to take it lying down; they'd much prefer to raise sales for the PSP in a legitimate and traditional fashion

It might be copy protection, which within days each game will be cracked.

Whatever it is, Sony will end up losing

I think Sony does not understand.
If they could allow us to make homebrew and use it on original firmware, there would be a lot more people using the PSP.
I don't use the psp to play games but to create homebrew.
Sony will lose again. Why continuing this fight? I don't understand

In during "LOL SONY SUCKS BECAUSE I HAVE CUSTOOM FIRMWURE". Without Sony you'd have no PSP, quit being hypocritical.
