    Default Linux on PSP

Ok, I'll start this here, maybe it should be moved, i dunno.

It's gonna prob sit empty for a while...

I need a bootloader... I want to develop a Linux distro for the PSP based on Gentoo. The key with my setup is that I am going to build it for the MIPS processor, so I dont want to use the x86 emulator/bootloader that I have found.

    Sooo.. I need a bootloader.
Once I get linux to start running, I can go crazy... custom OS (w/ GUI), full web browser, memstick for RAM, network storage...

i mean just imagine how bad web browsing is right now.. you can get what? a good 300x600 screen rez outta that little beast, a good on-screen keyboard would triple the time it takes to do anything.... ya im not seeing it

Not really looking for a poll here. There are a lot of us that experiment with things because we can. Certainly it wouldnt be intended to be a computer replacement, but it would certainly give more things that you can do with the PSP... why do any of us here design anything other than GAMES for the PSP?

    Don't do it!
It's kinda useless really, no offense.
Someone made Windows run on the PSP. It was fail! PSP is just a gaming device nothing more..... Get to together with another PSP coder and make something more useful.
(I didn't mean to sound harsh btw)

No worries on the "harsh" part.
I see your point, but I am not trying to make a mini computer.
The goal wouldnt be to try to make a full OS/mini computer. The goal would be to have a platform that can be used for a broader spectrum of add-on software.

Linux can work very well on portable devices, just look at Blackberrys.
(Blackberry devices run Linux with a JAVA virtual-machine and J2ME for the GUI).

    My Mods: PSP-slim 5.00m33-6 - custom SD card mod (16GB) Old-school XBox(softmod) '65 GMC - 350c.i. Wife - 2kids (4yo Girl, 11mo Boy)
Use Blackberry IM? Ask for my PIN || On FaceBook? Ask for my URL
