    Default Discovered Bug - buttons dont work

    im not asking for help, i know what to do.

    i just wanted to list all the events surronding the discovery of this bug.

    first off the bug occured while entering my initials at the high score screen of [PSP]Zero_Chou_Aniki[JAP][ESPALPSP].cso

    it started out as i couldnt push any face buttons ( X, O, /\, [] ) during the initials entering, i then pressed HOME to go back to xmb but again both X & O would not work.

    i pulled the battery and booted it up again, everything worked fine, all buttons and d-pad, i loaded "Blackspeed" to see if my memory stick went bad, everything worked but once i pressed home i could not exit.

    pulled the battery and booted it again, this time the "O" key will not work at all, im installing psxchecker and psptool so i can check my keys and see if a nand restore fixes the problem, i'll post results later.

    circumstances surronding the issue:
    1. Japanese PSP Phat 1000, 5.00m33-6 + 1.50 addon
    2. cr-5400 w/ sandisk 8gb micro sdhc class6
    3. occured while playing [PSP]Zero_Chou_Aniki[JAP][ESPALPSP].cso
    4. plugins enabled: popsloader
    5. contents of memory stick: ROOT
    -IRSHELL
    -ISO
    -MP_ROOT
    -PICTURE
    -PSP
    -seplugins
    -VIDEO

    6. contents of plugin folder:

    -psxchecker
    -psp tool .9
    -pmp player advanced
    -jello car
    -irshell2x3x
    -bookr 8.1
    -blackspeed v.2

    8. contents of "game150"
    -filer 6
    -irshell150
    -irshell150%

    9.contents of video folder:
    -tropic thunder
    -robot chicken seasons 1&2

    i know most of it didnt matter but since im trying to discover the cause of the bug i really dont think there is such a thing as too much information at this point.

    i'll post the results of psxchecker and see if i cant remedy the issue.

    ==================EDIT====================

    i also had an auto boot battery (1800mah came with phat)
    and a custom theme (the psn theme)

    ==================EDIT 2======================
    last night i hit the select button as an iso was loading, the vsh menu was displayed over the psp game boot and the system froze, didnt think it did anything bad because it worked fine last night, and this morning, just thought i'd mention it.

    again the bug did not occur at all until i tryed to enter initials in the high score screen of [PSP]Zero_Chou_Aniki[JAP][ESPALPSP].cso

    after running psx checker i have discovered that some how my "O" button has been mapped to the hold switch

    when i press "O" nothing happens but if i hit the hold switch once it presses "O" and when i release "HOLD" it releases the "O" button.

    i disabled the vsh in recovery but that has had no effect.

    the only option left is to try a nand restore, im going to do that and post back any findings.

    =================EDIT=============================
    while creating my magic memory stick using psp tool .9 i noticed that when it asked me to hold the key(s) for the pandora to boot i held "L" and "L+Circle" was waht was choosen, so its as if "O" is being constantly held down.

    but if you check this video you'll see it is pressed and released by the "HOLD" button

    i tried a nand restore, unfortunately the only nand backup i had was from 3.90m33-3, it worked fine but it did not remedy the button problem

    ======================EDIT 2===================================

    i re-instaled 5.00m33 and the issue still exists, i also swapped "X" & "O" on the recovery but the issue still exists.

    the only option left is dissassembly, but i doubt it will help.

    im going to post a link to this thread in help and see if anyone knows anything, but since im the person who usually answers these types of questions i think i might not have the best of results, but im going to try anyway.

    after some more testing i am 99% sure that pulling up the vsh while booting an iso caused this bug.

    the only thing left to do is order a new power board and see if the problem still exists.

    does any one have any idea how to remedy this? or if there are any files left behind in the flash by the vsh menu? im grasping at straws right now because i really dont want my original jap 1000 to become parts only, any help is appreaciated

    im going to replace the power board with a new one when i get one, but i dont think its the button contacts because when i access the vsh menu i can not choose "shutdown" or "reset device" if i try to go to those options the psp freezes, also if i hit select to exit the vsh the psp freezes.

    thanks cheewongken, i added some rep to your name.

    **problem solved**

    it turned out to be a little peice of crap metal shaving was bridging the gap from the "O" ground contact to a open ground on the board

    i guess i was panicing for nothing, its funny how when something happens to someone else you can calmly provide the right answer but when it happens to you, you tend to forget everything you know about electronics.
