    Default Noob question on Game file sizes

    Why are some games so big, such as Resistance and LocoRoco 2, both 1.3 GB+ while LocoRoco 1 is just 400 MB and FFTactics is less than 200 MB???

    Thanks

    It could be one of 3 things:
    1. It is probably a CSO rather than an ISO
    2. Could be a demo
    3. Could be an addon for the actual game

    Because of

    Audio
    Video
    Graphics
    Game Type
    Text in the game
    Langs files
    compression of the game files
    and many other factors

    PSP 1.5 got on USA first day is was 1.5 NOW 4.01 M33-2 -> 5.00 M33-6(1.50 addon),
    Old PS3s: PS3 60GB FW:3.41(2nd ps3 YLoD, 1st, YLoD)
    New PS3:
    Slim 160gb 01-21-2011 Working
    was 3.40 OFW->3.60 OFW

    2nd PSP : PHAT 5.50 GEN-D2
    3rd PSP : Sliver 3000 Starting OFW:4.20 (NEW bought NEW on 11/28/2010)
    It a good idea to have "Hide extensions for known file types" in Folder Options(under Tool) unchecked (turn on extensions)

    Lol, that's a question I didn't expect to hear, anyway, like Ryu said it all depends on the files that build it up, and their quality, generally a game with better graphics and sound quality SHOULD be bigger...

    Earlier games are usually pretty small, they were not overly developed like the later games where. I find most older games were on the 900 MB UMD's while more later games utilize the 1.8GB UMD disc's. Of course this is all dependant on wether the game excceded 900mb or not.

    Its the same reason why a rerelease of Final Fantasy 1 wouldnt take up an entire DVD. Its a small game, doesnt have mad rendered cut screens or recorded voices. DS games are limited to 256mb so the developers have to work within those confines. When porting a simple game between platforms they dont always add in extra stuff leaving the game small. Puzzle games are like that.

    I figured this question was pretty dumb/obvious. But I was very surprised when I download LocoRoco at 400 MB and then LR2 at 1.3 GB . I figured that was a pretty steep increase and there really isn't much difference (from what I can tell) in the games.

    LR2 may have more/bigger levels than LR1. Also, if you want smaller games, you can rip stuff out yourself, like audio, video, language files, update folder, ect. There are ripkits for games too that rip them for you. Dont forget to CSO them, just dont CSO the GTA's or GOW, or they will lag.

    One example, when I was playing Resistance, I only played the online mode, so I ripped the Campaign mode out and went from 1.55gb down to 79.7 mb.
