    Default Sony Copyright Infringement warning

This is what i got from SONY Canada after putting an ad up on a local selling site for a psp modding service.

copyrightprotection@sony.ca says: The service that you are offering is a violation of our TOS (terms of service) and recommend that you reply back promptly so that we may rectify this situation. FYI copyright infringement is a criminal offense in Canada and is punishable by a maximum of 5 years in prison and a $500,000 fine.

This person is responding to your ad on UsedRegina.com. Your email address has not been revealed to them. However, if you do reply to this message, this person will then learn your email address and will then correspond with you directly. Thank you for using UsedRegina.com.

    Notes about protecting yourself:

    1. Accepting cash is an easy way to avoid scams.
    2. Don't be alone when the buyer comes to inspect your item for sale.
    3. Have the item at the front door to avoid having to invite the buyer through your home.
    4. Have the item ready to test so the transaction proceeds quickly.
    5. If the buyer proposes to give you more money than your asking price (i.e. with a cheque or bank draft) and expects a refund of the difference, it is almost certainly a scam.

Are you even in need of help with anything?
This is the wrong section to be posting messages you get from Sony.

Well, i forgot to ask. Should i be worried? In Canada, I've heard that modding isn't illegal, I know modchips are legal in the US and Canada.

Well I don't think the police are going to come crashing your door down and arrest you for hacking psp's. But if they see that you continue to supply this service, they could sue you but that will probably never happen.

OK, thanks for that, just needed to make sure. I also found out that you can put any email address into the field when you're sending a message to the seller on that site. The site emails the message for the buyer.

Most of the time it is kids messing around , Other modders or game store owners/workers.

On these Ad sites you can put any email address you like into the little box .

I use the same tactic to scare away any new competition from my area.
Lets say for example that i am selling a modded 360 and so is someone else . I will report their ad and get it removed until mine is sold and send them a fake email from microsoft to stop them from putting it up again .

Just ignore the fake emails ...... I do

Also google the email address "copyrightprotection@sony.ca" and you will find 0 results for that address.
