    Default Sony Delays Goodwill Program

Playstation Portable owners will not be able to transfer the disc-based UMD games they own to a PSPgo when the sleek new digital-only system launches next week, Sony officials told Kotaku today. "We were evaluating a UMD conversion program, but due to legal and technical reasons we will not be offering the program at this time," a Sony Computer Entertainment of America spokesman told Kotaku.
The $250 PSPgo has no UMD drive, instead relying fully on an Internet connection to purchase, download and install games onto the system's harddrive or removable memory.
At this year's E3 Expo in Los Angeles, Sony Computer Entertainment officials said that they hoped to have a plan in place to allow UMD games to be transferred over to the PSPgo by the launch of the system.
"We are looking into programs for owners who have previously purchased UMD titles and want to exchange them for digital versions," Sony Computer Entertainment's Brian Keltner told Kotaku at the time. "It's something we are still hammering out the details. As soon as we have solid plans in place we will make an announcement."
One of the rumored plans involved Sony installing kiosks in retail stores which would allow gamers to turn their UMD games into digital ones. Recently a Dutch and Australian retailer said they would not be carrying the PSPgo.
While the ability to transfer already owned copies of UMD games to the PSPgo could likely have a large impact on whether current Playstation Portable owners would buy the system, it's unlikely it would impact gamers new to Sony's portable offerings.
During the Tokyo Game Show Sony unveiled new peripherals for the PSPgo, dropped the price of the Playstation Portable in Japan and announced the launch of a program that would free games to people in Europe who upgrade from the PSP to the PSPgo.

They had better offer something. The US customers are receiving an "extended demo" as a bonus and the Euro people are receiving GTPSP and 3 other games...What the fuck?

No surprise... they did the same thing with the PS3 Slim.... removed all support for the PSx and PS2 ...... no different with the PSPgo... it's like the gen2 of PSP.

Yeah, how could such an exchange system work? It's not like we could send our UMDs through the mail and have a download link/code sent to us or anything.

Hell, they could even send it back, stamped in some way to know they've already copied it once, so you can still use it on your old PSPs. But of course Sony wouldn't do such a thing.

Well you CAN use a digital copy on old PSPs. They seem to have a plan where you trade it in somewhere for a download voucher, but nothing is 100%

    damn sony if fucking lame...
i like there systems, but they always make shitty choices with them. havn't made one yet that they didn't start tearing shit out of to make it cheaper.

never owned a microsoft system(windows not included..) but at least they don't do that dumb shit, they just ADD features... yea sony ADD FUCKING FEATURES QUIT TAKING THEM AWAY!!!
Spoiler for why im not including the psp in my bitching..:
(obviously im not putting alot of emphasis on the psp... 1000 to 2000, lost ir but gained 32megs more RAM...also the brighter backlight is welcomed. least they actually added something. 2000 to 3000 was a feature added. 2 actually. and then to the go... which im still ignoring cause well it loses features but gains others and im not targeting systems that gain.)

im starting to understand microsoft fan boys.... and am about to just give up on SCE (im not a fanboy of anything btw..)

The choices they are making relating to the sale of the GO seem stupid. They keep doing the opposite of what the gamers want.

Gamers want free games, but that will never happen unless they pirate them.

Sony, just like any other business only cares about profit. They would surely have made the goodwill program months before, but it won't profit them and they would be using valuable time on it. Time is money so they just ditched maybe for now, maybe forever.

To the people who are a little slow about finding things out about the PS3 Slim:
    1. PS1 b/c was not removed and won't be, they have an easy way to make money on reselling PS1 games via PS store this way.
    2. The only thing they took out was the "Install Other OS" feature which was largely unused and unneeded.
    3. They added an HDMI feature. Now you can control your PS3's XMB via your Sony Bravia TV's remote. - Extreme Retard feature since many of us don't own overpriced HDTV's.
    4. Other than that this console is IDENTICAL in terms of features to the 80GB and 160GB PS3's out there atm.
    5. 60GB is still the best.
