Hook Boot Vs. WAB Launcher

Everyone knows I greatly support WAB. However, after finishing Ape Escape, I'm finding myself wanting to play other games. It seems with WAB they just can't deliver actualy playing very many ISOs.

Don't get me wrong, their loader is great and it has many features. However features aside it doesn't really play any ISOs????

I wanted to play Lumines, Mercury and Wipeout but WAB just wont work. So I tried this new Hook Boot. It works on all of them! Plus a really kewl feature is it maintains the icons, backgrounds and audio for the menu.

For the average user it's rather complicated to get working but once you do all the games run great. However I sure will miss the overclock feature on the WAB.

Another thing that comes to mind is I can now give my folder structure to other v1.0 people and they can play the ISO with no setup. So why don't we just start packaging ISOs with the needed PBP and BIN files???? Obvisouly for both 1.0 and 1.5. Makes sense to me! Then NO LOADERS are needed.

I was thinking that same thing with the whole game in the eboot.pbp, mayby that might happen. I never really used wab launcher cause it doesn't load what a want. I want to load ridge racers and other game like fafner. I need to see a hook boot compability list

So what we need is the Hook Launcher with the reliability of the WAB launcher and that will solve our problems...

By the way any chance of anyone posting a list of the games currently working with the hook launcher..


Also ISOHaven m8 if you could post the main article of the link to ps2nfo that you have here would be a great help to many as them gits block ip address of many users without a reason at all.

I'd just like to know how to get it properly configured.

I've only tried it with Tenchu and I think that only worked because everything has been done for you.

How do you get the INI files for the other games, or is it the Hookboot files???

Is there a tutourial for this anywhere please?

Was going to test Spiderman 2 but then read ur post

Anyway I am glad I never bought Ridge Racer as my first game, went with Wipeout which is so much better and keeps u interested, RR gets repetitive, is easy and it sucks coz it doesn't have the best track that was in the 4th one u know the main title song Ridge racerrrrrrr....

That said I still am playing it, a web browser would have tempted some??

I agree that the WAB loader is great and the hook boot is greater in terms of compatibility but I wouldn't want to start seeing ISO's being packaged with their own PBP, BIN, INI, or whatever file is needed to run the game just yet. It's already confusing as it is trying to determine which ISO's are full rips and which are ripped and who ripped what, etc. If you start packaging different PBP, BINS, and INIs with the ISOs, there would be chaos in trying to figure out which ISO works with which Loader.

Eventually, WAB or the Hook Boot team or someone else will release an ISO loader that will work with the original rip without having to modify any individual file, at least that's what we've been promised. ;)

Until that time, we should keep the ISO's looking as clean as possible. I would rather just have the game ISO file in my Memory stick as oppose to multiple folders and mutiple files scattered everywhere.
