    Default Android on PSP

Android On Sony PSP! Wait, What?

It would have made far more sense (although been a lot more difficult) to do this on the touch-driven Nintendo DS, but a user on the PSP ITA forums called User Manual has managed to get a shell of Android running on the Playstation Portable!
It lacks a lot of functionality, being a beta and all, but it is still pretty impressive! Right now, the following is up and running:-

    • USB
    • Games
    • Photos
    • Info
    • Settings
    • Contacts
    • Calculator

Wow. Now you too can make your expensive portable gaming device slightly more powerful than a Nokia 3210. You want to do so? Go ahead and download the Android for PSP stuff here.

I am about to try this out. It's kind of useless right now but it's still cool that it has been done.

    Nice

I hope someone can improve upon it. Being able to use Android apps even minor ones would be awesome.

So far it looks like it's just a shell. I'm unsure if this uses the actual Android kernel... if it doesn't then I doubt the apps will work. If I understand correctly this is actually more closely related to iR Shell than the android os since it is only a shell.

I tested it for a little while and I got an error trying to close the calculator but everything else looked good.

Yeah its pretty much a theme at this point.

I got the calculator to work but with teh psp inout system its clunky. Couldnt get anything else to work though. Couldnt play mp3 or games from the menu.

If someone could actually put the Android kernel on the psp then we could use Android apps

Actually an Android emulator would be the best bet. The G1, the oldest Droid phone only has like a 500mhz processor thats normally clocked to 300 and 128 mb of RAM.

Im sure someone could code a Droid emulator to work for the psp

It's not Android, it's just a PBP which runs lua files by looking at the zip.

Possibly because it's a heavily touchscreen and mobile network-based OS

Teh G-1 and many Droid phones come equipped with analog nubs and like a handful of buttons. Im sure it could be made to work with the psp.

I have a G1 and trust me, it's difficult to use any apps with just the trackball. Anyway you would have to emulate Android and the Linux kernel on the PSP and that would be really slow. All Android phones are more powerful than the PSP

Well the G-1 has a cpu default speed of what? about 300 mhz right? And overclocked it goes to 500 and it has what? about 128 mb of RAM?

Thats not much more powerful than the psp.
