Default "the game could not be started (80020148)" when trying to run emulators

I got my fat PSP updated to 5.00 M33-4 last night, and I just tried to play my emulators today, and I got the message "the game could not be started (80020148)". I changed the kernel back to 1.50 and still nothing happened. the PSP works fine when trying to run a UMD, though.

I'll list all of my settings in the recovery mode.

    Configuration:
    Skip Sony Logo (currently: Disabled)
    Hide corrupt icons (currently: Enabled)
Game folder homebrew (currently: 1.50 Kernel)
Autorun program at /PSP/GAME/BOOT/EBOOT.PBP (currently: Disabled)
UMD Mode (currently: Sony NP9660 -NO UMD-)
    Fake region (currently: Disabled)
    Use VshMenu (currentlyL Enabled)
XMB Usb Device (currently: Memory stick)
Use M33 Network update (currently: Enabled)
Hide PIC0.PNG and PIC1.PNG in game menu (currently: Disabled)
    Use version.txt (currently: Disabled)

    Run Program at /PSP/GAME/RECOVERY/EBOOT.PBP

    Advanced:
    *Advanced configuration:
**Plain modules in UMD/ISO (currently: Disabled)
**Execute BOOT.BIN in UMD/ISO (currently: Disabled)
    **XMB plugins (currently: Enabled)
    **GAME plugins (currently: Enabled)
    **POPS plugins (currently: Enabled)
    *Toggle USB (flash0)
    *Toggle USB (flash1)
    *Toggle USB (flash2)
    *Toggle USB (flash3)
    *Format flash1 and reset settings

    CPU Speed
    Speed in XMB (currently: Default)
    Speed in UMD/ISO (currently: Default)

    no plugins

    Registry Hacks
Button assign (currently: X is enter)
WMA and Flash Player are activated

so, any ideas? and if you need to know how I installed 5.00 M33-4, check out this thread: http://toosmartguys.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=16837

all the emulators and ROMS are in the "M:\PSP\GAME" folder. and I am using NesterJ, PSPGENESIS, and snes9xTYL. I had all these emulators and roms working in the 1.50 and 3.52 M33 updates, didn't test it during 3.52 M33-4, and now that I've upgraded to 5.00 M33-4, they aren't working for some reason.

:EDIT: I just clicked "Format flash1 and reset settings" in the "advanced" menu in the recovery menu. here's what my recovery menu looks like now:

    Configuration:
    Skip Sony Logo (currently: Disabled)
    Hide corrupt icons (currently: Disabled)
Game folder homebrew (currently: 5.XX Kernel)
Autorun program at /PSP/GAME/BOOT/EBOOT.PBP (currently: Disabled)
UMD Mode (currently: Normal -UMD Required-)
    Fake region (currently: Disabled)
    Use VshMenu (currentlyL Enabled)
XMB Usb Device (currently: Memory stick)
Use M33 Network update (currently: Enabled)
Hide PIC0.PNG and PIC1.PNG in game menu (currently: Disabled)
    Use version.txt (currently: Disabled)

    Run Program at /PSP/GAME/RECOVERY/EBOOT.PBP

    Advanced:
    *Advanced configuration:
**Plain modules in UMD/ISO (currently: Disabled)
**Execute BOOT.BIN in UMD/ISO (currently: Disabled)
    **XMB plugins (currently: Enabled)
    **GAME plugins (currently: Enabled)
    **POPS plugins (currently: Enabled)
    *Toggle USB (flash0)
    *Toggle USB (flash1)
    *Toggle USB (flash2)
    *Toggle USB (flash3)
    *Format flash1 and reset settings

    CPU Speed
    Speed in XMB (currently: Default)
    Speed in UMD/ISO (currently: Default)

    no plugins

    Registry Hacks
Button assign (currently: X is enter)
WMA and Flash Player are not activated

now that I did the "Format flash1 and reset settings", I'm getting an error message that says ""the game could not be started (8002014C)" when trying to run the emulators. the UMD's still work fine.

You can't fix anything through the recovery menu. On your XMB press select and make sure your have the M33 driver on, or try the NP9660 driver under the UMD ISO mode. That should do it. And just make sure You have the lastest (stable) releases of the emulators you want to use.
    Need some advice?

is there a way I can check to see if I'm running the latest emulators? I googled the emus, but I can't find a website for them.

I just downloaded and installed the DGEN, NesterJ, and snes9xTYL from here. I still get the "8002014C" error on all 3.

:EDIT: I just changed the kernel to 1.50, and now I'm getting a "80020148" error code.

:EDIT 2: changed it back to 5.XX kernel, and I get the same "8002014C" error code. I tried both "Sony NP9660" and the "M33 driver" UMD mode, and it made no difference.

:EDIT 3: I upgraded to DGEN version 1.70, and I still got the same "8002014C" error code.

should I start looking at how to downgrade to a lower firmware? or can this work? is there anyone who has 5.00 M33-4 that are able to successfully run NES/SNES/Genesis emulators on it?

That is very odd. What plugins do you have enabled. I know that Tweakdisplay, the new PaintOnXMB, and some other prx plugins can mess up the emulators (or other apps) trying to boot. Are you putting the Emu's in the right directory; are you reading the readme's and checking to see if they go in the 1.50/5.xx/GAME folders?

I have the same PSP and the same CFW as you and the only time I have received errors only when I have a wonky plugin or have a the UMD driver tweaked. Set everything back to deafult settings (or reinstall 5.00 altogether if you have to) and check the readme's on the eboot's you're using and make sure they are for CFW 5.XX, use nothing lower than 3.80 or it probably won't work (with the exception of 1.50 kernel apps.) And make sure you reinstall the 1.50 kernel.

BTW; do you have the 1.50 kernel installed? because that would be the main issue if you havent.

I haven't installed it. I tried to install it, and it wouldn't run it. do you have a link to the version you used? I figured I didn't need it since I could already select "1.50 kernel" from the recovery menu.
