Default GPSP .SAV file not recognized

I was playing a pokemon emerald ROM using GPSP on a m33-2 custom firmware for about 2 1/2 hours, using the in-game save feature multiple times, but not the savestate feature. When I went to pick up from where I had left off, emerald's main menu had no "Continue" option. I checked out the memory stick to see if the saving really hadn't worked at all, but when I looked in the proper file (Stick/PSP/Game/GPSP/GBA/SAVES), the 128k emerald.sav file was right where it should be, last modified at the exact time I had saved before quitting.

Why is the save file on the memory stick, but not recognized when I start the ROM? I've already tried many of the most common recommendations to no avail: different emerald ROMs yielded the same result, and my version of GPSP (which I only now notice to be "unofficial") apparently has no way to switch between 64k or 128k.

The in-game saves functioned perfectly for Zelda Minish Cap (8k) -- until I lost about 20 minutes of play by running into a problem with the "update backup" setting being on "exit only" and powering off the PSP without exiting GPSP. I considered that this may have happened with Emerald too, but the fact that the save is on the memory card seems to disprove that possibility.

Can anyone help? Sorry for length, was trying to be as detailed as possible.

I have the same problem.I saved at Fortree city and then i dropped my PSP and the battery fell off. Then I turned on the game and saw that the game doesn't recognize the save.I connected it to my usb cable and checked is there a .sav file in the gba folder and there was the save, but my rom doesn't recognize it.
