I've had an occasional odd issue with other things like that caused by problems with installed USB drivers. It usually happens like this when installing a device attached to a flaky or bad cable. Windows will start to install drivers, but the device disappears before installation finishes, corrupting the driver entry in Device Manager. To fix problems like this, first you'll need to make sure Windows is configured to show phantom devices.

Make a batch file called "Show Phantom Devices.bat" and use this code:

REG add "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment" /v DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES /t REG_SZ /d "1" /f > NUL
ECHO Changes won't take effect until next boot.

Run it, restart your computer, and go to Device Manager. Then, Click View>Show Hidden Devices. You should now be able to see ALL hardware that has ever been attached to your computer, not just devices that are currently attached as Windows normally does.

Look through all the USB devices there for anything under Other Hardware, anything saying Unknown, anything with an exclamation mark, or basically anything that looks like it has a problem. Uninstall any devices with problems, and the next time you plug them up, then as long as the devices (your PSP in this case) aren't at fault, they will reinstall fresh drivers properly.

Hopefully this fixes your troubles. If anybody else has some other suggestions, I'm starting to run out of ideas . . .

I can't really see where you're going with this, I'm using a windows Vista, not XP, so if you have an xp, it might be different for me.

You're right, I am using XP. I'm pretty sure this applies just as much to Vista as it does to XP, but you should make sure to run the config patch I provided from an administrator account.

There are other causes to this problem, but I haven't experienced these other problems to know exactly why your PSP doesn't seem to detect at all. I remember reading something about corrupt keys causing it, but I haven't been able to find a link to guide you to more info yet. Search through the forms and search Google to see if you can get your PSP to detect, because you'll never be able to complete my process without it.

As it stands, there's not a lot more I can think of to help you. The questions you're asking are drifting further and further from the topic, so you should probably start a new thread if you can't find relevant information elsewhere. I'm sure someone can help you resolve the problem, and once your past that, then you can proceed with this process and you're more than welcome to come back with questions relevant to the topic of this thread.

I can't really see where you're going with this, I'm using a windows Vista, not XP, so if you have an xp, it might be different for me.

bottom line when you put your psp into usb mode, does it show up in your "my computer" as a "removable disk" if you use an hp machine i know that it displays every usb as a removable disk so you may have to double click them to see if your psp is attached.

simplified instructions:

plug in psp
put psp into usb mode
goto "my computer"
double click every removable drive you see until you open a folder that contains a "psp" folder (along with other folders like "iso", "mp_root", "sepluggins" and etc)

if you have had success veiwing the "psp" folder than there is nothing wrong with your drivers.

if you can see it in the computer than your drivers are fine.

honestly i really dont think you are proficient enough to succesfully preform this type of maintnence, and i would really hate to see you turn a small problem into a really big one, so at this time i am choosing not to help you with this attempt any further.

I agree with Mr.FixIt. I don't think you're quite ready to mess around with flash0 like this. Also, I must add that something is still wrong there, because the whole point is to get it to show up in WinImage, not just My Computer.

if it shows up in my computer than its not a driver, plain and simple.

i think he is having difficulty using winimage thats it.
