If you're using the same version as I used in the tutorial then there should be a menu. If not then something is wrong. I can't reproduce the problem so I can't help you.

Oh wow, it looks like the irshell official website doesn't exist anymore.

Edit: It says it's for slim only but I really believe this is the version I'm using on my PSP: http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1692

Sorry to dig up this old chestnut, better to do that then make a new thread and get yelled at.

Is there a way to build an iR circuit with a RED LED and plug it into the headphone jack, and use software to control the device that way? Also, do you need the remote to learn the codes from, cant you get the codes from the device?

This is a tutorial, it's always okay to bump tutorials... Especially mine

Anything is possible. The question is, are you determined enough to do it yourself? (Though, I don't think it will work through the headphone jack, you would need to solder something to the motherboard)
Also, do you need the remote to learn the codes from, cant you get the codes from the device?
This program was created to read codes from the remote. When you press a button on the remote it sends a certain signal to the TV or whatever device you're using. Each button has a unique signal. The TV typically only receives the signal - it never has a reason to transmit a signal. So I think the answer is no on this one.
