Default How to use Slim colors on a phat PSP

This is a tutorial on how to use the XMB wave colours of the PSP Slim on a PSP Phat. The patch adds more colours in your Theme Settings.

You need to have custom firmware to make this work.

DO NOT TRY ON PSP 2000 (SLIM) OR 3000 (BRITE). THIS IS ONLY FOR PSP 1000 (PHAT)

    Tested on 5.00 M33.
    Should work on 3.90 M33 and 4.01 M33 (maybe 5.50 GEN, too)

    1) You will need the 13-27.bmp file. Download it from Megaupload or from ImageHost.org -

    2) Turn on your PSP and press Select. The VSH menu should show up.
If it doesn't, then go to recovery menu (press and hold the R trigger while turning the PSP on). Press X over Configuration, scroll down to Use VshMenu and set it to Enabled (pressing X).

    3) Set USB Device to flash0.

    4) Plug in your USB cable (go to USB Connection if it doesn't automatically connect to the PC).

    5) Copy the 13-27.bmp to
    flash0:/vsh/resource

Now you should have two BMP files in this folder: 01-12.bmp and 13-27.bmp.

    6) Unplug your USB cable.

    7) Press Select again and set USB Device to Memory Stick

    8) Now you will need the slim_colors.prx file.Download it from Megaupload or from ImageHost.org - slim_colors.prx (2 KB)

    9) Connect your PSP to the PC again. Copy slim_colors.prx to:
    memory stick/seplugins

If you don't have a "seplugins" folder in the root of your MS, you can create it yourself.

    10) Open vsh.txt in the "seplugins" folder (if you don't have a "vsh.txt", you can create it yourself). Then add this line:
    ms0:/seplugins/slim_colors.prx

    11) Now unplug your USB cable.

    12) Go to recovery menu (Press and hold the R trigger while turning the PSP on).

    13) Press X over Plugins.

    14) Scroll down to
    slim_colors.prx [VSH]
and set it to Enabled pressing X.

    15) Press Back and exit recovery menu.

    16) Turn on your PSP. Go to Settings > Theme Settings > Color and you will see a lot of new different colors (27 or 30). Mine are 30.

Is there a particular reason you had to use Megaupload instead of a normal image hosting service, like, I dunno, say imagehost.org?

No, there isn't. You mean Megaupload is not a normal one? If there is a problem, I can upload the files in another hosting service and edit the links.

The problem is small, but an arseache.

With Megaupload, I have to enter some randomly generated code, then wait, like, 40 seconds, then remember that I wasn meant to be waiting, and click a link. If I don't remember quickly enough, I have to wait again.

With imagehost, I click the link, and it's there.

You can download the files either from Megaupload or from ImageHost.org.

You can just activate "Use slim colors" in the recovery menu under configuration instead of using a plugin (however you must still copy the image file from a slim or this thread), I'm not sure if this is a GEN only option.

M33 doesn't have this option in the recovery menu. If it had this, the plugin would be completely useless.

Ok, that motivated me to try this. He certainly speaks the truth, but one thing evades me.

How did it get all those different gradient patterns from on .bmp? (How it got the different colours is simple.)

By using any image editing program with a gradient fill function.

Now, how did it (The PSP) get the different patterns?
