Default [VideoTutorial]How to switch between OFW and CFW

    Introduction

Guide Last updated : 19 September 2010 (see changelog below)

I put this guide together because I've recently seen a few people ask about how they can run OFW and CFW (or vice versa) at the same time. One of the reasons this need arises is because we cant play the new demo's such as GOW Ghost of Sparta on custom firmware.

This tutorial presents 2 methods to effectively "dual boot" different firmware(s) from your psp.

    Method 1

This method is by far the simpler one and that is to have your psp running on OFW and use pandora to run cfw from the memory stick using the "Test M33" option within DCV8.

    Method 2

This method allows you to change (flashes) the firmware running on your PSP at boot time. First of all you need to install the firmware onto your psp. You then take a backup of the nand and basically repeat this process for all the different firmwares you want to boot into. At boot time you then get presented with all the nand backups you've made and choose the one you desire.

    Comparison

Which method do you choose? Well, here are some differences

    • Method 2 allows you to switch between M33, GEN and OFW
    • Method 2 is slow, method 1 is fast
    • Consider how often you chop and change between OFW and CFW
    • Method 2 increases the number of flashes you make to nand. Arguably this increases the chances of creating bad blocks

    Warnings :

    • These procedures only work on a PSP100x or PSP200x with TA088V1/V2. Do not go trying it on others
    • Do not go restoring the nand from one psp to another.

    Requirements

Both methods will require the following :

    - A MMS created using PSPGRADERV008
    - Pandora battery : Hardmod | Softmod | Buy

    Instructions

    Method 1

    1. Download the required files(s)

    None Required

    2. Follow the video below

    Method 2

    1. Download the required files(s)

    nandtools 0.4 Neo

    2. Follow the video below

    END

I see that you used my RECOVERY folder method, kamenrider. It was a good idea to make a tutorial about it. You might want to add the information about the custom ipl for slims. Otherwise, slim users won't be able to boot into official firmware with a pandora battery. You can find the ipl installer here. It's for OFW 6.30, but the creator says that it also works on 6.31.

Is this all I need if I have a slim, or do I still have to go through the video's process?

I want to be able to boot into 5.00 m33 and 6.31, use the PS store on ofw, iso's in cfw, and homebrew in cfw. All I have is a pandora hardmod battery btw.

This is what I have been doing using Method One. All you need is ISO_TOOL to patch ISOs on 5.00 M33 in order to play some of the newer games.
