    i made this little gem for my site. thought people here might get a kick out of it.

    it allows you to set a background image to your posts..

    Code:
    example:
    [bgimage=url]post content[/bgimage]
    Code:
    BBCode:
    [bgimage={URL}]{TEXT}[/bgimage]
    Code:
    HTML Original:
    <TABLE BORDER="0" CELLPADDING="4" ALIGN="Center" WIDTH="100%" HIGHT="100%">
    <TR>
    <TD style="BACKGROUND-IMAGE:URL({URL});">{TEXT}</TD>
    </TR>
    </TABLE>
    So, please add this for me... :)

    Won't this get abused with a massive seizure .gif as a BG?

    i'd hope not, it could also be modified to only allow jpg's

    Code:
    <TD style="BACKGROUND-IMAGE:URL({URL}.jpg);">{TEXT}</TD>

    gifs can easily be hidden as jpgs. Not a good idea and besides, a lot of members here only have dial up and wouldn't be able to view the forums as much anymore.
    Obey Beaker. That is all.

    i agree. but a div would not be confined to the post. it could easily hijack the entire page.

    Explain your reasoning behind why a table wouldn't.

    ok.....

    html 101

    the table tag assumes that the post it was entered into is the entire body of the page. as a table within' a table is confined to the parent table.

    a div tag does not operate this way, a div, or "div "OVERLAY"" acts as an overlying layer, or mask if you will. it has no correlation to the parameters of its parent. it is only controlled by it's own style settings, which include location and size. as the post is in a different coordinate everytime you post, the div style setting could not remain static. (who knows where it would pop up in relation to the post.)

    now, if the div where set the same as my table (height/width 100%) it would not be confined to the parent table and would take the entire page, or not show up at all if the body is not shown to be 100% page size.

    no homework for today. but there might be a pop quiz next week.

    ^ If the above was copy+pasted, whoever wrote the above is clearly a dumbass.

    Facts:
    - It _does_ have correlation to the parameters of it's parents
    - It is only controlled by its own style IF YOU DEFINE IT TO BE SO

    And a whole load of other lies which I can't be bothered rebutting.

    all me dude, and i'm going to test these scripts out...

    the point, however, is that tables wont flood outside the posts.

    wait, divs are not confined by table sets at all! i know this because i used div overlays to customise an old site that i had hosted. not to mention it's used to cover myspace pages everywhere. :sigh:

    EDIT: have any admins looked at this?
