    Default Spam Bots/Auto Posters

There seem to be a lot of spam bots/auto posters recently, where the user/bot posts repeated off topic stuff with a link to some random non psp related site in its sig..

Thanks for the update.... ...because we didn't notice or anything...

But seriously the spam bots are really annoying and take a lot of the staff's time to remove. Unfortunately there is no good anti-spam plugin for vBulletin, so we're stuck with having to manually delete them.

As long as you guys report them we'll catch them all and perma-ban them

Luckily when they register there's about 6 all from the same IP so we can mass-ban them. We also have a good idea of which country they are from, but we can't just ban a whole ISP/country...

Usernames are now tested against the ban list so there will be a significant drop in spam registrations.

...until spam bots start adding a uniquifier to the end or middle of the username.
Already have seen it happening actually.

No magic way to stop spam. It's why spammers keep doing it.

Couldn't you prohibit users from adding a link to their first post, giving an error message if they try? This could potentially reduce auto-spam

After you've posted one post without a link you are free to post links

There are spammers which make a number of posts without links, then come back a day later to add links to all their posts. Also bypasses some moderators because many only check recent posts and ignore older ones.
