Wii disk reader

My Wii has fallen off my shelf once or twice before, and I didn't seem to think it was a problem and it worked fine for quite a while. But me and my friend were playing brawl and in the middle of the match the Wii just freaked out and had a disk read error. Ever since then I haven't been able to play Wii disks and it might be related to the falling damage, also the Wii is about 5 or 6 years old so it might just need to be cleaned out, but I don't know the best cleaning method. Anyone have any advice?

Any DVD cleaning disc will work with the wii, however if it just happened in the middle of a game and you haven't been able to play since, probably wont be the laser but a burnt out tracker. Might want to look into loading games off a hard drive in that case.

Do gamecube discs still run?

Otherwise you'll only be able to play games off a hard drive.

If replacing the disc drive is beyond your capabilities you'll have to softmod your wii to play your backups off an external hard drive.

That'll work for wii games but not for gamecube games unfortunately
