It a good idea to have "Hide extensions for known file types" in Folder Options(under Tool) unchecked (turn on extensions)

The drive can't go in wrong, you won't be able to put the case back together. It slides down on cylindrical place holders, and there is NO WAY, without breaking something, that it will go in wrong. So, that means the drive can't be all contorted as so the drive door won't open. It is either a weak belt, or the plastic gears - if you are hearing noise, then it's the plastic gears grinding, also common with optical drives.

Oh, and what is gentle persuian?

IF you cannot get it to work, don't fret. Go to Ebay and buy a drive JUST LIKE yours, same model and FW revision, swap logic boards, and put the new one in with the original's logic board. I have done this many times, once for myself.
